Governor Ahmadu Fintiri of Adamawa State has defected to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), marking a dramatic shift in the political landscape of the state.

In a statewide broadcast on Friday, the governor announced that he was leaving the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to join the APC, citing what he described as the need to align Adamawa more closely with the government at the centre.

Fintiri disclosed that members of his cabinet, along with key officials of the PDP in the state, moved with him to the ruling party, signaling a coordinated defection that could significantly alter party structures across the state.

He said the decision followed wide consultations with political stakeholders, community leaders and supporters, adding that the move was taken in what he termed the overall interest of Adamawa’s development.

According to the governor, joining the APC would enhance collaboration with the Federal Government and open up greater opportunities for infrastructure, investment and social development programmes for the people of the state.

The defection is expected to trigger political realignments within Adamawa, long considered a stronghold of the PDP. Analysts say the governor’s switch could reshape party dynamics ahead of future electoral contests.
