The National Judicial Council (NJC) has recommended 14 lawyers to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for appointment as judges of the Federal High Court (FHC).

The recommendation was disclosed in a statement issued on Wednesday in Abuja by the NJC’s Deputy Director of Information, Mrs. Kemi Babalola-Ogedengbe.

According to the statement, the decision was reached during the Council’s 110th meeting held on January 13 and 14, 2026. The meeting was presided over by the Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN), Justice Kudirat Kekere-Ekun.

Mrs. Babalola-Ogedengbe explained that the shortlisted candidates were selected after a rigorous screening and evaluation process in line with established judicial appointment guidelines.

She noted that the recommendation has been forwarded to President Tinubu for consideration and possible appointment, in line with constitutional provisions.

The Federal High Court plays a critical role in Nigeria’s judicial system, handling cases related to federal government agencies, revenue, customs, banking, and other specialised matters.

The NJC said the move is aimed at strengthening the judiciary and enhancing the speedy delivery of justice across the country.
