The Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NUPRC) has urged all parties involved in the ongoing dispute between the Dangote Refinery and the Petroleum and Natural Gas Senior Staff Association of Nigeria (PENGASSAN) to embrace dialogue and peaceful negotiation in the interest of the nation’s energy sector.
In a statement issued in Abuja on Monday, the Commission noted that the standoff, if not quickly resolved, could disrupt the operations of Africa’s largest refinery and undermine Nigeria’s drive for energy security.
NUPRC Chief Executive, Engr. Gbenga Komolafe, said the Commission is closely monitoring developments and stands ready to mediate between the refinery’s management and the oil workers’ union to ensure an amicable settlement.
“The Dangote Refinery is a critical national asset with huge implications for Nigeria’s economy and regional energy balance. While workers’ rights must be respected, we encourage PENGASSAN and Dangote management to return to the negotiation table in good faith to resolve their differences. Industrial harmony is key to sustaining progress in our oil and gas sector,” Komolafe said.
He further stressed that the Commission remains committed to promoting fair labor practices, industrial peace, and the smooth operation of strategic energy infrastructure.
NUPRC also appealed to both parties to avoid actions that could escalate tensions, adding that constructive engagement remains the best way forward.
