An aide to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has launched a free digital skills training programme aimed at empowering young girls with technological knowledge to thrive in today’s fast-evolving digital economy.
The initiative, according to the organiser, is designed to bridge the gender gap in the technology sector, equipping participants with practical skills in areas such as coding, digital marketing, graphics design, and website development.
Speaking at the opening ceremony, the presidential aide noted that the programme was born out of a passion to empower young women, particularly those from underprivileged backgrounds, with opportunities that will enable them to compete favorably in the global digital marketplace.
“This training is not just about giving skills, but about giving hope, breaking barriers, and ensuring that our girls are not left behind in the digital revolution. With these skills, they can build careers, create jobs, and contribute meaningfully to Nigeria’s growth,” the aide said.
Participants expressed excitement at the opportunity, noting that the free programme has given them access to resources they would not have been able to afford.
One of the trainees, a secondary school graduate, described the programme as “a dream come true,” adding that she intends to use her new skills to start a small online business.
Stakeholders and community leaders commended the initiative, urging other well-meaning Nigerians and government officials to emulate the gesture in order to build a digitally empowered generation of young women.
The training, which will run for several weeks, is expected to graduate hundreds of beneficiaries, with certificates and mentorship opportunities provided to help participants sustain and expand their knowledge base.
