The Defence Headquarters (DHQ) has confirmed that troops of the Nigerian Armed Forces killed several terrorists, arrested 85 suspects, and rescued 66 kidnap victims across the country during operations in August 2025. Maj.-Gen. Markus Kangye, Director of Defence Media Operations, shared this update during a briefing in Abuja on Thursday, September 4, 2025, detailing successes across multiple regions.
In the North East, Operation Hadin Kai neutralized numerous Boko Haram/ISWAP fighters, arresting 15 suspects and rescuing eight victims, while the North West saw operations in Zamfara, Sokoto, Kaduna, Kebbi, and Katsina yield 23 arrests and 24 rescues.
The North Central’s Operation Enduring Peace accounted for seven arrests and two rescues, with an additional suspect caught with N3 million ransom, and Operation Whirl Stroke in Benue, Nasarawa, Taraba, Kogi, and the FCT added nine arrests and 13 rescues, reflecting a broad push to restore stability.
The operations, spanning all six geopolitical zones, also recovered significant arms and ammunition, with Kangye noting intensified joint efforts to neutralize threats and safeguard citizens.
This marks a continuation of military gains, following a reported 10,937 terrorists killed in 2024, though exact casualty figures for August remain unspecified, prompting some skepticism online about the narrative’s completeness.
