In a determined effort to promote safer highways and enhance efficiency in its sprawling logistics operations, the Dangote Cement Group has launched a large-scale, thorough screening exercise for over 1,500 of its truck drivers across Nigeria.

The extensive exercise, which began earlier this week at the company’s ultra-modern transport hub in Obajana, Kogi State, is designed to carefully evaluate drivers’ physical health, mental alertness, and professional competence. Officials explained that the move forms part of the conglomerate’s continuous drive to improve road safety, protect lives, and ensure the smooth, timely delivery of cement nationwide.

Speaking during the colorful flag-off, Dangote Cement’s Group Head of Transport, Mr. Adewale Olawale, described the screening as “a bold, proactive, and absolutely necessary step” towards curbing reckless driving and reducing accidents. He noted that drivers are being tested for vision clarity, cardiovascular health, drug use, and stress management, in addition to undergoing rigorous refresher training on traffic regulations and defensive driving techniques.

“Every single driver represents our company on the road,” Olawale stressed passionately. “We want them to drive not only skillfully, but also responsibly, confidently, and conscientiously. That is why we are investing heavily in this exercise, because one careless mistake could cause irreparable damage to lives and property.”

Many of the drivers, visibly eager and optimistic, expressed appreciation for the initiative, saying it would boost their confidence and improve their professionalism. Some described the program as the most detailed, encouraging, and supportive assessment they had ever experienced in the Nigerian haulage sector.

Industry experts praised Dangote Cement’s decisive intervention, noting that with thousands of trucks crisscrossing the country daily, such a structured and painstaking approach to screening is vital for reducing road accidents, enhancing corporate reputation, and safeguarding Nigeria’s overstretched highways.

The company further assured that the screenings would be conducted periodically, with advanced monitoring technologies and continuous training programs being introduced to sustain higher safety standards.
