The Enugu State Electricity Regulatory Commission (EERC) has reduced the Band A electricity tariff from ₦209 / kWh to ₦160 / kWh, effective August 1, 2025, under Order No. EERC/2025/003
Only Band A (typically high-consumption or industrial users) sees the drop; tariffs for Bands B–E remain unchanged.
The move is part of a cost-reflective tariff model, designed using a Distribution Tariff Model and based on a calculated average cost of ₦94/kWh. The federal subsidy (₦45 of actual ₦112 generation cost) makes the reduction feasible.
The Enugu State Electricity Law 2023 and the 2023 Electricity Act empower states to regulate power distribution and pricing—this is one of the first major reforms under that new framework.
EERC now has enforcement tools: if MainPower (the state’s distribution company) fails to meet service levels on Band A feeders for two consecutive days, they must report it—and after seven days of continued failure, feeders may be automatically downgraded.
Band A customers in Enugu will pay ₦160/kWh starting August 1.
This strategic reduction is a state-led initiative to ensure fair pricing, backed by subsidy savings and designed to maintain service levels.
EERC has introduced transparency and accountability measures to ensure that the price cut translates into better—or at least stable—electricity delivery.
