On Friday, the Governor of Enugu State, Peter Mbah, announced a new leadership team for the State Forest Guard.
This was revealed in a statement by Chidiebere Onyia, the Secretary to the State Government.
According to the statement, the governor has approved the appointment of retired Colonel Dan Didiugwu as Chairman of the Enugu State Forest Guard. In addition, retired Deputy Commissioner of Police, Olamitisoji Akinbamilayo, has been appointed as the Commander of the Forest Guard.
Onyia noted that Colonel Didiugwu’s appointment as chairman is subject to confirmation by the Enugu State House of Assembly, while the appointment of the Commander takes effect immediately.
He explained that these appointments are part of the state government’s plan to improve and professionalise forest and environmental security operations throughout Enugu State.
The statement also mentioned that the restructuring is in line with the government’s goal of protecting lives, property, and natural resources.
“It is further announced that the office of Commander of the Forest Guard supersedes the previously existing position of State Coordinator, which is now abolished.
“The State Government expresses confidence in the capacity and experience of both Colonel Didiugwu and DCP Akinbamilayo to reposition the Forest Guard into a highly responsive and efficient outfit,” Onyia added.
