A tragic incident occurred yesterday during Liverpool Football Club’s Premier League victory parade when a vehicle drove into a crowd on Water Street in Liverpool city centre. The collision resulted in injuries to 47 individuals, including four children, with 27 people hospitalized and two reported in serious condition.
The driver, a 53-year-old white British man from the Liverpool area, was arrested at the scene. Authorities have stated that the incident is not being treated as terrorism and believe the suspect acted alone.
Witnesses described the vehicle, identified as a grey Ford Galaxy, accelerating into the crowd, with some individuals being thrown onto the bonnet. Four people, including a child, were trapped beneath the vehicle and were rescued by emergency services.
Prime Minister Keir Starmer condemned the incident during Liverpool FC’s victory parade on May 26, 2025, as “appalling” and praised the swift response of emergency services. In a statement released via the Prime Minister’s official press office, Starmer said: “The scenes in Liverpool today are appalling. My thoughts are with all those affected. I want to thank the emergency services for their swift response.”
