Insecurity: Gunmen kill Celestial Church prophet in Ogun, as two masked  men murder suspected cultist in Ondo

The Ogun Police Command has confirmed the shooting to death of a prophet of Celestial Church in Idiroko by gunmen during Sunday’s service.

The command’s Spokesperson, CSP Omolola Odutola, confirmed the incident in a statement issued to newsmen in Ota.

The incident took place just as two masked men also snuffed the life out of a suspected cultist at Owo, Ondo State on Sunday – yesterday, January 19, according to CSP Funmilayo Odunlami, the command’s Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), in a chat with newsmen in Akure, the state capital.

With regard to the Ogun incident, CSP Odutola explained that “some unidentified gunmen entered the church during Sunday’s service  and opened fire on the  prophet and then escaped from the premises.

According to her, the Divisional Police Officer received a report at about 10.30 a.m. that someone had been killed at a Celestial Church, located on Old Baggage Road, Odo Eran, Idiroko.

“Police officers quickly moved to the scene of the incident and discovered that a 54-year-old prophet, Yomi Adetula, was lying face up in a pool of his blood that stained his white celestial garment.

“Upon closer inspection, his body was found to be riddled with bullets, and his head was severely damaged with an axe to confirm that he was indeed dead.

“During the police investigation, it was revealed that three men entered the church, brandished a long double-barreled gun, aimed at their target, and fired a shot that caused chaos,” she stated.

Odutola further stated that the remains had been deposited at the Ilaro General Hospital morgue.

She added that no arrest had been made but the police were actively working to apprehend the fleeing suspects, who reportedly escaped from the church toward the border area.

She further stated that normalcy had returned to the area, adding that potential clues were expected to emerge in the coming days as investigations into the tragic incident were underway.

Two masked men kill alleged cultist in Ondo —Police

Meanwhile the  Police in Ondo State has confirmed the murder of an alleged cultist, Nasir Isiaka, by two masked men at Owo in Owo Local Government Area of the state.

CSP Funmilayo Odunlami, the command’s Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), confirmed the incident to newsmen on Sunday in Akure.

“The command can confirm the murder of one Nasir Isiaka, aged 40 years, a notorious cultist, who has been on the police wanted list.

“The police at A division, Owo, today received a distress call that someone was shot at L.A. Igbanasa Area of Owo by two masked men.

“On getting to the scene, the police discovered that the deceased was a cultist who participated in the End SARS protest.

“He attacked the Uso division and stole an AK 47 and bullet proof vest belonging to the police, he also participated in the killing of one Adedeji Rafiu aka PA,” the PPRO said.

Odunlami, therefore, said that his remains had been deposited in the morgue by the police, while efforts were on to apprehend the masked men.
