The Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC) has announced the appointment of Ben Iloanusi as its acting managing director (MD), following the conclusion of Fidet Okhiria’s tenure as MD.

This change in leadership was disclosed in a statement released on Sunday by Yakub Mahmood, the deputy director of public relations at the NRC.

According to Mahmood, Okhiria completed his second four-year term on October 18, 2024, and formally handed over the reins to Iloanusi.

Iloanusi, who has been a part of the NRC since 2011, has risen through the ranks to become the most senior executive director within the organisation. Prior to his appointment as acting MD, he held the position of deputy director of procurement, a role he has served in since 2019.

His academic credentials include a bachelor’s degree in political science from the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, as well as a Master of Business Administration (MBA) in international management from South Bank University in London, United Kingdom.

In his farewell address, Okhiria expressed his gratitude to the staff and management of the NRC for their cooperation and support throughout his tenure. He also encouraged them to extend the same level of dedication and assistance to Iloanusi, urging a seamless transition for the betterment of the corporation.

“I urge the management and staff of the corporation to provide the same level of cooperation and understanding to the acting managing director,” Okhiria said, reflecting his confidence in Iloanusi’s leadership.

In response, Iloanusi acknowledged the challenges ahead and called on the NRC staff for their full support. He also welcomed constructive criticism, emphasizing that collaboration and open dialogue would be key to advancing the goals of the corporation and improving its services.
