The Inter-Party Advisory Council (IPAC), Cross River State chapter, has projected that no fewer than 2.5 million eligible voters will cast their ballots across the state in the upcoming 2027 general elections.
Speaking at a press conference in Calabar on Saturday, July 18, 2026, the State Chairman of IPAC, Effiom Edet Okon, revealed that the council has spent the past several weeks aggressively mobilizing political structures across all 18 Local Government Areas (LGAs) to ensure robust citizen participation.
According to Okon, IPAC has been working closely with the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), civil society organizations, traditional rulers, religious leaders, and youth groups during the Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise to guarantee that no eligible resident is left behind.
The 2.5-million-vote target represents a substantial surge compared to the 2023 general elections, where the state recorded approximately 1.766 million registered voters. With Cross River’s current population estimated to be well over 5 million, IPAC believes the milestone is highly achievable if current mobilization trends persist.
Okon emphasized that hitting this target is crucial not just for democratic representation, but for the state’s political standing on the national stage:
“Today, IPAC confidently declares that, with the ongoing mobilisation and the cooperation of INEC and every stakeholder involved in this exercise, Cross River State is on course to record not less than 2.5 million votes in the 2027 General Elections. This is not merely a projection; it is a collective target that every stakeholder must work tirelessly to achieve. A higher voter population means a stronger democratic mandate, greater political relevance, and a louder voice for Cross River State in determining the future of Nigeria.”
As the remaining days of the Continuous Voter Registration exercise wind down, the council urged all unregistered residents to take advantage of the window to secure their franchise.
IPAC reminded the public that political change begins with documentation, underscoring their current campaign slogan: “Democracy begins with voter registration. And so, No Voter’s Card, No Voice. No Registration, No Participation.”
