Former Attorney-General of the Federation (AGF) and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami (SAN), has strongly condemned reported attacks, political violence, and alleged intimidation directed at members of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Birnin Kebbi, the Kebbi State capital.
Speaking through statements issued by party representatives and his political aides in Birnin Kebbi, Malami, who is the ADC governorship flagbearer in Kebbi State, expressed outrage over the disruption of political activities and destruction of party assets by alleged political thugs.
The clash occurred during campaign mobilization activities in Birnin Kebbi. Witnesses reported that armed individuals disrupted gatherings, damaged billboards, and damaged party property near key transit corridors in the state capital.
Reiterating the party’s position, ADC State Campaign Coordinator Yahaya Tadurga condemned the intimidation, asserting that the opposition would not be deterred from running an issue-based campaign focused on governance, security, and economic recovery ahead of the general elections.
Malami urged ADC members and supporters across Kebbi State to maintain peace and refrain from taking the law into their own hands. ”We urge our members to remain calm and law-abiding. The ADC will pursue justice through all appropriate legal and constitutional channels to ensure that those responsible for political violence are held accountable,” the party stated in a press release.
Responding to the claims, the Kebbi State Government, through Special Adviser on Media and Publicity Ahmed Idris (speaking on behalf of Governor Nasir Idris’ administration), denied involvement in the disturbances.
The state government countered the allegations by accusing the ADC and its leadership of inciting tensions and exploiting security concerns for political gain, maintaining that the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) remains committed to peaceful political engagement.
Following the altercations and subsequent disputes over property damage in the state capital, Malami’s legal team has formally petitioned the Inspector-General of Police and the Kebbi State Police Command to investigate the attacks, identify the perpetrators, and guarantee safety for all political parties ahead of the campaign season.
