President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has launched a sharp political attack against the presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Peter Obi, questioning his executive record and leadership credentials ahead of the 2027 general election.
Speaking on Friday afternoon, November 6, 2026, during a political rally and event in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, President Tinubu criticised the former Anambra State governor for failing to address the severe gully erosion challenges in his home state during his two terms in office.
Addressing a crowd of All Progressives Congress (APC) supporters, President Tinubu contrasted his governance achievements in Lagos State with Obi’s tenure in Anambra. ”He’s in one party, they call it NDC, who is running for President; he ran away from erosion in Anambra State. He could not confront erosion,” President Tinubu declared.
“I, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, confronted the Atlantic Ocean; I tamed it for you.” Tinubu further questioned whether Obi possessed the character and stamina required to steer the nation.
“Is that a leadership trait? Is that a leadership character? And he wants you to vote for him?” the President added, challenging the electorate to scrutinise the governance records of opposition candidates before the 2027 polls.
President Tinubu urged voters in Akwa Ibom and across Nigeria to collect their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) ahead of the next election cycle, promising that his administration would double down on economic diversification, job creation, education, and skills development for the youth.
Akwa Ibom State Governor Umo Eno, who received the President, was commended by Tinubu for tackling local environmental issues in the state. Governor Eno and local APC stakeholders pledged to mobilize up to two million votes for the President’s re-election bid in 2027.
The attack comes amid intensifying rhetoric between the ruling APC and opposition parties as political realignments take shape ahead of the 2027 general election. Neither Peter Obi nor spokespersons for the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) have formally responded to the President’s statements at the time of reporting.
