In a major political realignment ahead of the 2027 general elections, the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) has officially resolved not to field a presidential candidate, adopting President Bola Ahmed Tinubu of the All Progressives Congress (APC) as its preferred presidential choice.
The formal announcement was made on Friday, November 6, 2026, during the official campaign flag-off held at the Alex Ekwueme Square in Awka, Anambra State. Addressing a crowd of party faithful and political stakeholders, the Anambra State Governor and National Leader of APGA, Prof. Chukwuma Charles Soludo, declared the party’s unanimous backing for President Tinubu’s re-election bid.
“APGA has no presidential candidate for the 2027 general elections and will, therefore, adopt President Tinubu as its preferred candidate. Today, we adopt the APC presidential candidate, Bola Tinubu, as our candidate,” Governor Soludo stated.
Outlining the strategic rationale behind the endorsement, Governor Soludo pledged that APGA will actively mobilize to deliver at least 50 per cent of Anambra State’s total votes for President Tinubu in 2027. He emphasized that establishing a strong political alignment with the government at the center is vital for negotiating critical infrastructural development and socio-economic integration for Anambra and the broader South-East region.
Highlighting past goodwill, Soludo noted that despite Anambra giving Tinubu roughly 5,000 votes in the 2023 elections, the President has consistently extended developmental support to the state and demonstrated concern for the Igbo people, citing his history of appointing individuals of Anambra origin to key positions during his tenure as Lagos State Governor.
While APGA will not run a presidential campaign of its own, the party affirmed it will field candidates across all state-level and legislative contests, while channeling its presidential vote base behind Tinubu.
