Former Vice President Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, the presidential candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), has pledged to restore petrol subsidies, reopen Nigeria’s land borders for legitimate trade, and decisively end widespread insecurity if elected president in 2027.

Atiku outlined his administration’s core policy objectives on Wednesday, November 4, 2026, during the official flag-off of the ADC presidential campaign in Sokoto.

The ADC delegation arrived at the Sultan Abubakar III International Airport in Sokoto shortly after 1:00 PM before moving through the state capital to address thousands of party supporters at the campaign venue just before 5:00 PM.

In a wide-ranging policy address, Atiku criticized the economic measures of the ruling administration and laid out an alternative framework aimed at offering immediate relief to Nigerian households.

Laying out his economic and security program in full prose, Atiku committed to re-establishing targeted petrol subsidies to ease mounting transportation burdens and production costs for ordinary citizens, alongside creating interventions to support locally refined petroleum products. To revive regional commerce, strengthen border-community livelihoods, and stimulate legal cross-border enterprise, he promised to reopen international land borders.

On national stability, the ADC flagbearer vowed to deploy modernised security strategies to eliminate kidnapping, insurgency, and banditry nationwide. He further called on citizens to participate actively in the democratic process, urging voters to turn out in large numbers, protect their ballots, and ensure all votes are properly counted and announced.

”We should all come out, vote massively, protect our votes, and make sure our votes are counted and announced. We will not allow what happened in past elections to happen anymore,” Atiku declared to the crowd.

The rally featured key party chieftains and political allies who addressed the gathering despite political friction and administrative hurdles in the state prior to the launch.

Campaign chieftain Senator David Mark presented the official ADC flag to the party’s Sokoto State governorship candidate, Muhammad Manir Dan’Iya, calling on members to mobilize aggressively at the grassroots level.

Meanwhile, former Sokoto State Governor Senator Aminu Waziri Tambuwal commended party supporters for their resilience and determination to launch the campaign despite opposition pushback.

The Sokoto flag-off marks the formal commencement of the ADC’s nationwide presidential campaign tour across the country’s six geopolitical zones ahead of the 2027 general elections.
