The Young Progressives Party (YPP) has expelled Hon. Uzokwe Lovepet Ifeanyi Peter, the member representing Nnewi North, Nnewi South, and Ekwusigo Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, over alleged gross misconduct and anti-party activities.
In a statement issued on Monday by the party’s National Publicity Secretary, the YPP said the decision followed a thorough disciplinary process in line with its constitution and was ratified by the National Executive Committee (NEC).
According to the statement, Hon. Uzokwe’s actions were deemed inconsistent with the ideals, principles, and objectives of the party. The YPP accused the lawmaker of engaging in activities that undermined the unity and credibility of the party both within and outside his constituency.
“After careful review of the allegations and evidence presented, the NEC resolved to expel Hon. Uzokwe Lovepet Ifeanyi Peter from the Young Progressives Party with immediate effect. His conduct contravened Article 21 of the YPP Constitution relating to party discipline and loyalty,” the statement read in part.
The party further warned that it would not hesitate to take similar action against any member found to be working against its interests, emphasizing its commitment to internal discipline, transparency, and accountability.
In the meantime, the YPP leadership has called on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to take note of the expulsion and make the necessary updates to its records.
Efforts to reach Hon. Uzokwe for his reaction were unsuccessful as calls and messages sent to his phone were not responded to as of press time.
Political observers say the development may deepen the crisis within the YPP in Anambra State, where internal wrangling has intensified ahead of the 2027 general elections.
