Vice President Kashim Shettima arrived in Ekiti State today, Tuesday, June 9, 2026, for a high-profile, one-day working visit aimed at commissioning major infrastructural upgrades and driving tech innovation within the state.
​Representing President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the Vice President was received at the Ekiti Agro-Allied International Cargo Airport by the state governor, Mr. Biodun Oyebanji, alongside top state officials and traditional rulers.
​The visit, which marks Shettima’s second official working tour of the state since assuming office, is being hailed by the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) as a clear reflection of the alignment between the Federal Government’s “Renewed Hope” agenda and Governor Oyebanji’s “Shared Prosperity” blueprint.
​The major highlight of the infrastructure tour was the official commissioning of the newly completed 1.2-kilometer flyover at Okeyinmi in the heart of Ado-Ekiti.
​Announced as the second flyover in the capital city, Governor Oyebanji revealed that the legacy bridge has been officially named the Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu Flyover. The state government stated that the bridge was strategically conceived to alleviate central traffic congestion, improve inner-city transit safety, and modernise the aesthetic appeal of the state capital.
​Beyond road infrastructure, Vice President Shettima moved to commission the newly built Zonal Office of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), located along the Old Iyin Road in Ado-Ekiti. The new facility is expected to decentralise and strengthen anti-graft operations within the region.
​Shifting focus to economic sustainability and youth empowerment, the Vice President also performed the official groundbreaking ceremony for the Ekiti Knowledge Zone (EKZ). The EKZ is designed to be a premier digital and technological hub aimed at positioning Ekiti as Nigeria’s Silicon Valley by attracting private investors, tech talent, and digital research centers.
​With the state’s highly anticipated governorship election scheduled for June 20, 2026, the political atmosphere in Ado-Ekiti remains charged.
​Speaking on the impact of the visit, the Ekiti State Publicity Secretary of the APC, Segun Dipe, issued a statement asserting that the projects are a verifiable testament to good governance.
​”Beyond concrete and steel, this visit sends a clear political signal. The partnership between President Tinubu’s Renewed Hope and Governor Oyebanji’s Shared Prosperity is visible, verifiable, and delivering results. Ekiti people can see the difference,” Dipe stated.
​Today’s developmental blitz follows the Vice President’s earlier visit in May 2024, during which he commissioned the Omisanjana-Deeper Life-Ajebandele Road and a specialized MSME clinic. Security and logistical arrangements remained tight across the state capital throughout the duration of the visit.
