President Bola Tinubu has condoled with the Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC), its affiliate unions and the legal profession over the death of its General Secretary, Mr Emmanuel Ugboaja.
Tinubu described Ugboaja as a veteran trade unionist and legal practitioner who devoted his professional life to advancing workers’ rights, welfare and dignity.
This is contained in a statement issued by Presidential Spokesperson, Mr Bayo Onanuga, on Friday in Abuja.
The President said Ugboaja’s contributions to constructive engagement between government, employers and workers would remain cherished by the labour movement and the wider society.
He said the late labour leader brought legal knowledge, strategic insight, administrative competence and an unwavering commitment to justice to the trade union movement.
“As General Secretary, he carried enormous responsibility, coordinating the affairs and providing strategic direction for the operations of the labour movement and its affiliate unions at critical moments.
“He helped to forge a common purpose among workers and their representatives,” Tinubu said.
The President acknowledged Ugboaja’s central role in negotiations with government and employers, where his legal training, experience and understanding of industrial relations proved invaluable.
Tinubu prayed that God Almighty would comfort Ugboaja’s family, the labour community and all those mourning his passing.
He urged the bereaved to take solace in the fact that the late labour leader lived a life dedicated to meaningful service.
