The appointment of Prof. William Barnabas Qurix as the pioneer Vice Chancellor of Federal University of Applied Sciences by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu comes to Nigerians especially citizens of Southern Kaduna as good news as well as a fulfillment of the inclusive mantra this administration is known for.
It may interest you to know that this is the first time in the history of Nigeria to establish a federal tertiary institution in Southern Kaduna. It is also the first time to appoint a Southern Kaduna indigen as a Vice Chancellor in a federal university by any government.
PROF. W.B QURIX
Professor William Barnabas Qurix is an accomplished academic and university administrator with over 36 years teaching and research experience in the university system :
• He holds a Master of Science degree and a Ph.D in Architecture which he obtained in 1987 and 1997 respectively from Ahmadu Bello University Zaria.
• In 2001 he obtained an M.A degree in Law and Diplomacy from the University of Jos.
• Professionally, Qurix is highly rated among his colleagues, thus in 2003 he was elected into the council of the Nigerian Institute of Architects where he served up to 2007 and in 2010, he was appointed into the Architects Registration Council of Nigeria. In 2012, he was inducted Fellow of the Nigerian Institute of Architects, and in 2015, he was nominated for the Robert Mathew Prize of the Commonwealth Association of Architects. He is a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Management Consultants and Institute of Public Administration and Managers.
• Professor Qurix has considerable experience in professional practice as evidenced in the design of many buildings.
• He has an outstanding record of public service:
√ In 2009, Qurix was appointed member of the Think Tank on Education in Kaduna state.
√ From 2009 – 2011, he served as Chairman, Kaduna state Urban Planning and Development Authority.
√ 2010 – 2011 he served as Honourable Commissioner of works and Transport.
√ 2014 he was a recipient of the National Award of the Officer of the Order of Federal Republic ( OFR)
• Prof. Qurix has attended many educational programmes on Leadership, Change Management, Project Management, and several others in the UK, USA, France, Italy, Turkey, Israel, UAE, South Africa, Egypt, and Ethiopia.
• He has delivered several public lectures on divers topic such as leadership, enterpreneurship and educational development.
• He is a visiting scholar to several universities.
