The Taraba State Government has officially debunked rumors alleging that it incurred a N1.2 trillion debt within the last three years, describing the claim as entirely baseless and mathematically implausible.
​Addressing journalists during a press briefing on Sunday at the Ministry of Finance conference hall in Jalingo, the Commissioner for Finance, Dr. Sarah Adi, clarified the state’s true financial posture and urged the public to disregard the misleading figures circulating in media reports.
Dr. Sarah Adi stated emphatically that the state government has not contracted any debt close to the rumored N1.2 trillion mark. The finance commissioner reassured residents that the current administration remains committed to prudent financial management and transparent accounting standards.
The government urged media outlets and political commentators to verify debt statistics through official public channels, such as the Debt Management Office (DMO), before publication.
​Speaking to newsmen on Sunday afternoon, Dr. Adi emphasized that the financial records of the state are open to public scrutiny and adhere strictly to regulatory standards.
​”The figure of N1.2 trillion being Bandied about is not only completely inaccurate, but it is also misleading and practically impossible given our state’s fiscal frameworks and borrowing limits,” Dr. Adi stated. “We urge members of the press and the general public to seek clarification from official sources rather than relying on unverified speculative reports.”
​Dr. Adi further noted that the state’s actual debt profile is regularly audited and published by competent national regulatory agencies. She assured stakeholders that capital expenditure and ongoing developmental projects across Taraba State are being funded through legitimate revenues and approved budgetary allocations.
