South West Governors have commended Aare Onakakanfo of Yoruba land and the Oodua People’s Congress (OPC) for their contribution to security in the region.

The State Governors, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, Lagos, Seyi Makinde , Oyo, Ademola Adeleke , Osun, Dapo Abiodun, Ogun, Abiodun Oyebanji, Ekiti and Lucky Aiyedatiwa, Ondo gave the commendation at the 30th anniversary celebration of OPC in Lagos, on Thursday (yesterday, August 29).

At the event where all the Governors were represented by their aides – Saheed Olushola Balogun for Sanwo-Olu, Chief Fagbayi Olusesan for Abiodun, Chief Akeem Adesola for Makinde and Otunba Dolamu Adeniyi for Oyebanji, the Governors commended OPC and its leader, Gani Adams, for their contribution to security and preserving Yoruba heritage .

Governor Abiodun described the organisation’s anniversary as symbolic, hailing OPC for its commitment to protecting the cultural, political and security interests of the region.Â

For his part, Governor Sanwo-Olu held that OPC and Gani Adams’ effort in fostering regional unity has not gone unnoticed, urging the group and its leader not to relent on their good deeds.

Governor Makinde showered encomium on Adams and OPC for being a pillar of support for his administration.

Governor Oyebanji also praised Adams and OPC’s contributions to the security of life and property in the region, urging them to do more.

In his welcome address, Adams said OPC has grown from just a group of activists to becoming an Iroko tree that has survived years of trials and tribulation

“As far as we are concerned, OPC will continue to be a leading organisation in Yoruba land and Nigeria. We will continue to protect the interest of the Yoruba and we will never fail in our effort to promote the cultural identity of our race,” he said.
