We pay tribute to Professor Albert Alos, an erudite scholar, astute leader, quintessential gentleman, and proud Nigerian icon by presidential conferment whose extraordinary career transformed engineering and management education across the continent.
​Arriving in Nigeria in 1967 during the Civil War, Professor Allos spent over five decades building the nation’s academic and socio-economic foundations. He laid the groundwork for electrical engineering education in Nigeria, designing curricula at the University of Ife, building a world-class Control Engineering laboratory at the University of Lagos, and securing full COREN accreditation for the Department of Electrical Engineering at the University of Ibadan.
Professor Alos pivoted to strategic management in 1993 to serve as the pioneer Director-General and Dean of Lagos Business School (LBS), forging it into a premier, globally recognized center for executive learning.
He served as the inaugural Vice-Chancellor of Pan-Atlantic University (originally Pan-African University), establishing its academic governance, expanding its faculties, and embedding a culture of high ethical standards and managerial rigor.
Proffessor Alos contributed directly to national policy on Nigeria’s Vision 2010 Committee, served six years as Vice-Chairman of the Nigerian Economic Summit Group (NESG), and fostered youth leadership through initiatives like the Helmbridge and Irawo study centers. By building Lagos Business School and Pan-Atlantic University from the ground up, he instilled a culture of uncompromising academic rigor, high ethical standards, and practical managerial excellence.
Beyond the lecture halls, his visionary stewardship in national economic planning and youth mentorship touched countless lives. ​Professor Alos’s transition from control engineering to strategic leadership redefined business education in Africa.
