Security has been significantly tightened around the National Assembly Complex in Abuja ahead of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s presentation of the 2026 budget estimates to a joint session of the National Assembly scheduled for 3 pm today.
Personnel of the Nigeria Police Force and the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) were observed taking strategic positions within and around the complex to ensure strict control of access and maintain order. Our correspondent, who monitored activities at the venue, reports that security operatives have been deployed across the main gate, villa gates, and other designated entry and exit points of the National Assembly.
The heavy security presence has resulted in heightened checks on both human and vehicular movements, with officers conducting routine screenings of visitors, staff, and lawmakers entering the premises. Only authorised individuals with valid identification were being allowed access as preparations intensified for the President’s arrival.
Sources within the National Assembly said the measures were part of standard security protocols for high-profile state functions, particularly those involving the President and a joint sitting of the Senate and House of Representatives.
President Tinubu is expected to outline the federal government’s fiscal priorities and economic projections for the 2026 financial year during the budget presentation, a key constitutional responsibility that draws the attention of lawmakers, government officials, and the public.
As of the time of filing this report, normal legislative activities within the complex had slowed, with security agencies remaining on high alert to ensure a smooth and incident-free event.
