Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu stole the spotlight at the 2026 Lagos Fashion Week after making an unannounced appearance on the catwalk alongside professional models at the Federal Palace Hotel in Victoria Island, Lagos.

The governor took to the runway on Saturday evening, October 31, 2026, during the showcase of high-end Nigerian menswear designer Ugo Monye. Dressed in a regal off-white ensemble that blended traditional caftan tailoring with a modern kimono-inspired cut, finished with a beige fedora, Sanwo-Olu drew loud cheers and applause from attendees.

The 2026 edition of Lagos Fashion Week, running from October 28 to November 1 under the theme “CRAFTED: Heritage. Innovation. Circular Futures,” convened over 60 designers across Africa. Founded in 2011 by fashion entrepreneur Omoyemi Akerele, the multi-day event serves as a premier trade platform linking African creative talent with international buyers, media, and retail stakeholders.

Addressing the surprise appearance, Governor Sanwo-Olu took to his official social media channels to reaffirm his administration’s commitment to the state’s orange economy.

”I stepped away from the usual business of governance to walk the runway for the incredibly talented Ugo Monye at Lagos Fashion Week. Lagos continues to grow as a home for fashion, creativity, and culture, and I am always happy to support the people driving this growth,” Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu stated.

Saturday’s show marks the governor’s second documented runway appearance at Lagos Fashion Week, having previously modeled for designer Emmy Kasbit in October 2023. The gesture underscores Lagos State’s broader policy focus on expanding investment, infrastructure, and international visibility for Nigeria’s creative and lifestyle sectors.
