The Rotary Club of Naraguta has distributed uniforms, sandals, backpacks, exercise books and other learning materials to 50 pupils in Jos North and Jos South Local Government Areas of Plateau.
The club’s president, Mrs Simi Goshwe, said on Thursday in Jos that the intervention was part of rotary’s efforts to remove barriers to education and support children from low-income homes.
Goshwe said the club was deeply committed to community service, especially projects that respond directly to pressing social needs and make a visible difference in people’s lives.
She said rotary recognised education as a powerful tool for social change, adding that every child deserved the opportunity to learn with dignity, confidence and the right support.
According to her, many families are currently struggling to meet the basic demands of schooling, and the club considered it necessary to step in where help was most needed.
“We are not just giving out school materials; we are investing in the future of these children,”she said.
The president said the gesture reflected rotary’s belief that small acts of service could create lasting impact in communities.
She added that the club would continue to support initiatives that promoted education, empowered children and vulnerable households.
Goshwe urged parents and guardians to resist the urge of wanting to sell the items given to the pupils .
Mr Elijah Izam, Head Teacher of LEA Primary School, Kunyi-Katse Gwafan, who spoke on behalf of the benefiting schools, described the donation as timely and impactful.
Izam said the economic situation had made it difficult for many parents to purchase uniforms, bags and writing materials for their children.
He said the items would ease the burden on parents and encourage the pupils to take their studies more seriously.
He appealed to other organisations and individuals to emulate the gesture .
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that other beneficiary schools include LEA Primary School, Kuru, and LEA Primary School, Chuwang Nyam.
