A foremost female journalist, academic and writer Dr Ngozi Anyaegbunam is dead. She is believed to have died on Wednesday, October 30th, 2024, of an undisclosed ailment at a private hospital in Abuja.
Dr. Anyaegbunam’s passage was confirmed to Daily Query by a close family member who preferred anonymity since he was not mandated to make the announcement. It was gathered that her only son, Rocky Agbese, who resides abroad, is being expected in the country to formally announce his mother’s death and unfold her obsequies.
Anyaegbunam started life as a graduate assistant at the University of Calabar where she later earned a Ph.D in English and Literary Studies in 1987. She had a stint as a lecturer at the University from where she joined Champion newspaper in 1988 as its pioneer Woman Editor. At Champion, she maintained a popular column on issues of common interests.
She later joined the editorial board of Daily Times, where she maintained a weekly column.She was to take time off to author a biography of first and second republic politician Alhaji Waziri Ibrahim.An undertaking which created furore that extinguished the possibility of the book seeing the light of the day. She later served as a contributing editor and columnist to the Compass newspaper.
