President Bola Tinubu is expected to commission the newly renovated International Conference Centre (ICC) in Abuja today, marking the kickoff of a week-long infrastructure inauguration across the Federal Capital Territory. The rehabilitation of the ICC, which was shut in April 2024 for extensive upgrading by Julius Berger, features modern acoustic systems, AI-assisted translation booths, renewable energy integration, and professional maintenance structured on a user-pay model. FCT Minister Nyesom Wike confirmed that the centre will operate immediately post-commissioning, emphasizing that maintenance and management of this facility will be handled by Julius Berger this time, not politicians.

This event inaugurates the roll-out of 10 high-profile projects personally overseen by the president as part of his second anniversary celebrations, with President Tinubu himself presiding over the ICC commissioning. The remaining projects, ranging from major road networks to urban infrastructure, will be commissioned by senior national leaders including the Vice President, Senate President, and Speaker of the House. Wike described today’s commissioning as “one of the happiest moments” of his tenure and stressed that the transition from faulty maintenance to expert care under Julius Berger represents a key milestone in sustainable governance for Abuja.
