The Niger State Police Command has arrested two suspects in connection with the alleged theft of a cow in Suleja Local Government Area of the state. The suspects, identified as Salisu and Suleiman Bawa, are currently in police custody as investigations continue.
The command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Wasiu Abiodun, said the incident was reported at the ‘B’ Division, Suleja, on September 5. According to him, a young boy had left home with cattle for grazing around the New-Gwazunu area on September 4 but discovered upon his return that one of the cows was missing.
Abiodun said police operatives commenced an investigation following the report, leading to the arrest of Salisu, who allegedly confessed to stealing the cow. He reportedly told investigators that he handed the animal over to two other suspects, Ismail and Puri, who are currently at large.
The police spokesperson said further investigation revealed that the stolen cow was sold to another suspect identified as Habu. He added that the animal was later recovered from the house of Bawa at APC Quarters, Suleja, alongside two other cows. Bawa reportedly told the police that Habu had kept the animals in his house.
The police said Salisu and Bawa remained in custody for further investigation, while efforts were ongoing to arrest Ismail, Puri and Habu. The command said the investigation would continue to establish the circumstances surrounding the alleged theft and recover any other stolen livestock.
