Governors of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) have initiated a high-stakes effort to reconcile warring factions within the party, aiming to strengthen its position for the 2027 presidential election. The move, announced on Monday, May 12, follows the appointment of former Senate President Bukola Saraki to lead a seven-member reconciliation committee tasked with resolving internal conflicts and preventing further defections.
The initiative comes as the PDP grapples with factionalism that has weakened its cohesion since the 2023 elections. According to reports, the committee is working against a tight deadline, with the party’s National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting scheduled for late May 2025. Sources indicate that the governors are determined to unify the party to counter the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), which faces its own internal challenges.
