In a bid to restore the economic glory of Abia State’s commercial nerve center, Governor Alex Otti has vowed to complete the total recovery of Aba. As part of this commitment, the Governor is set to flag off the reconstruction of two critical, long-abandoned arteries; Uratta Road and Old Express Road.
​The two major economic corridors link the bustling commercial hub to neighboring states, and their revitalization is expected to significantly boost regional trade, ease gridlock, and improve the quality of life for residents.
​Speaking on the development, Governor Otti reaffirmed his administration’s dedication to rebuilding Aba’s infrastructure, which had suffered decades of neglect under previous administrations.
​”Our mission is to completely transform Aba into a modern, accessible, and highly competitive commercial giant. Reconstructing Uratta and Old Express roads is a strategic step toward opening up the city, seamlessly connecting our traders to markets in neighboring states, and restoring dignity to our people,” the Governor stated.
The reconstruction will drastically reduce travel time and transport costs between Abia State and neighboring economic zones.
Reopening these roads is expected to revitalize dying local businesses, attract new investments, and curb the perennial flooding that has plagued the areas.
In line with the current administration’s standards, the projects will feature modern drainage systems and street lighting to ensure longevity and enhanced security.
​Residents and structural stakeholders in Aba have widely applauded the announcement, noting that the rehabilitation of these specific roads has been a critical need for over two decades.
​The official flag-off ceremony, scheduled to take place in the coming days, marks another milestone in Governor Otti’s aggressive infrastructure campaign, which has already seen the successful delivery of several inner-city roads in Aba and the state capital, Umuahia.
