The legal team representing the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Osun State has formally disowned a petition filed before the State Governorship Election Petition Tribunal challenging the victory of Governor Ademola Adeleke in the August 15 governorship election.
Speaking on behalf of the legal consortium on Monday, September 7, 2026, Senior Advocate of Nigeria Adekunle Adegoke (SAN) clarified that neither the APC governorship candidate, Asiwaju Munirudeen Bola Oyebamiji, nor the party authorized any legal suit against the election outcome.
The clarification came shortly after tribunal authorities posted notices of two separate petitions on the notice board at the State High Court premises in Oke Fia, Osogbo.
The petition, marked EPT/Os/Gov/01/2026 and signed by Tribunal Secretary Belemo Diete-Spiff, listed Oyebamiji and the APC as petitioners challenging Governor Adeleke, the Accord Party, and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
Adegoke disclosed that the APC legal team, comprising Senior Advocates including Dr. Biodun Layoonu (SAN), Dr. Yomi Aliyu (SAN), Dr. Muritala Abdulrasheed (SAN), and Prof. Mojeed Alabi, met with candidate Bola Oyebamiji on August 16, 2026 (the day after the election) to review the results.
The team advised against litigation to maintain peace in the state, leading Oyebamiji to voluntarily congratulate Adeleke.
Denouncing the documents posted at the tribunal in Osogbo, Adegoke referred to them as a “bundle of papers without substance” submitted by individuals “masquerading as APC lawyers,” emphasizing that no authentic petition was authorized.
A second petition (EPT/Os/Gov/02/2026) posted at the tribunal listed the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) as petitioner.
However, PDP politician Adebayo Adedamola also distanced himself from the filing on Monday, stating he had endorsed Governor Adeleke and authorized no legal suit.
The APC legal team reaffirmed that its client remains committed to his public congratulatory message to Governor Adeleke and will not participate in any tribunal proceedings.
