The Osun State Police Command has issued a stern warning against a planned public demonstration organised by a group calling itself the “Congress of Cultists,” which intelligence reports link to the Neo-Black Movement (NBM), popularly known as Black Axe.
In a official statement issued on Sunday, September 20, 2026, the Command’s Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), DSP Abiodun Ojelabi, speaking on behalf of the Commissioner of Police, CP Ibrahim Zungura, characterized the organizers as a “faceless group” attempting to destabilize public order.
Security sources revealed that the warning was prompted by actionable intelligence uncovered by the Command, which intercepted notice of an impending gathering across key locations in the state.
”The police and other security agencies will not fold their hands and allow miscreants to use any opportunity to disrupt the peaceful atmosphere, leading to the destruction of lives and properties,” the statement read. “Our operatives will respond decisively and appropriately to any action capable of threatening the peace and security of the State.”
The Command advised any group or individuals harboring grievances to channel their disputes through lawful mechanisms rather than resorting to self-help, unlawful gatherings, or reprisal violence.
The police warning comes on the heels of a heightened security posture across Osun State following a recent homicide. Investigators confirmed that while several key suspects linked to the killing have been identified, they currently remain at large.
According to DSP Ojelabi, a discreet investigation has yielded critical leads, and tactical teams are actively tracking the fleeing suspects to ensure they face the full weight of the law.
CP Zungura called on residents across all local government areas, including major hubs like Osogbo, Ile-Ife, and Ede, to remain calm, law-abiding, and vigilant, urging citizens to report any suspicious movements or gatherings immediately to nearby security outposts.
