Ahead of Saturday’s governorship election in Osun State, the police command has cautioned political actors against engaging in acts of violence, political thuggery, and inflammatory speech capable of disturbing the peace.
​The warning was issued by the Commissioner of Police for Election in Osun State on Tuesday, Samuel Etaifo, who urged politicians, candidates, and their supporters to maintain order and adhere strictly to electoral laws as residents prepare to head to the polls.
CP Samuel Etaifo emphasized that security forces will not tolerate any form of electoral violence, voter intimidation, or disruption of the voting process.
Political parties and candidates were specifically warned to refrain from making inciteful comments, hate speech, or provocative statements that could heat up the polity.
The police chief reassured the public that law enforcement officers are positioned to guarantee a peaceful environment, ensuring voters can exercise their franchise safely on Saturday. Over 15,000 personnel, including conventional officers, Mobile Police (PMF), tactical squads, and K-9 units, have been stationed across the state.
Operations are being overseen by a Deputy Inspector-General (DIG) and an Assistant Inspector-General (AIG) of Police to maintain strict neutrality and order.
​The police command reiterated that anyone arrested for violating electoral laws or attempting to compromise the security of the election, will be transferred directly to Force Headquarters in Abuja for prosecution.
