Following the defeat of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the August 15, 2026 Osun State governorship election, the party’s Deputy National Chairman (South), Chief Agbi Stephen Omobamidele, has called for an immediate and total restructuring of the party’s internal political management mechanisms.
Speaking at an emergency press conference held at 11:00 AM on Monday, August 17, 2026, at the party’s National Secretariat in Abuja, Omobamidele addressed party leaders, stakeholders, and newsmen, declaring that the outcome of the Osun poll serves as an urgent wake-up call for the ruling party ahead of future elections.
During his address, Chief Omobamidele expressed deep concern over the party’s operational strategy, grassroots mobilization, and conflict-resolution frameworks, citing severe lapses as key factors in the electoral loss. ”We cannot continue to operate under the same operational paradigms while expecting different results,” Omobamidele stated.
“The outcome in Osun State is a clear signal that our internal political management structure requires a complete, unsparing overhaul. We must realign with our grassroots, fix our internal reconciliation mechanisms, and ensure transparent governance within our structure.”
He further noted that a high-powered committee would be recommended to review the state-by-state political strategy across the southern region to prevent similar setbacks. The briefing also featured statements from key party communicators who sought to manage the fallout and reassure party loyalists: Speaking immediately following Omobamidele’s remarks, Morka emphasized that the party leadership welcomes self-assessment and constructive criticism.
”The APC is a living, dynamic political institution,” Morka stated. “While the result in Osun is regrettable, it demonstrates the vitality of our democracy. The National Working Committee (NWC) will meet later this week to deliberate on the observations raised by the Deputy National Chairman (South) and formulate an actionable roadmap forward.”

Speaking via telephone during a joint media session at 12:15 PM from the state capital, Osogbo, Olabisi echoed the need for internal reconciliation among state factions. ”We take full responsibility for our internal shortcomings during this election cycle,” Olabisi remarked. “We welcome the intervention of the national leadership under Chief Omobamidele to help us rebuild, unite our members, and restore the confidence of the Osun electorate.”
