This quote echoes the fleeting nature of life, a reality that befell Pa Edwin Clark, a national hero and statesman who left an indelible mark on Nigeria. One year after his passing, Prof. Mike Ozekhome SAN, CON, OFR, pays a glowing tribute to Pa Clark, describing him as a father to all, a mentor to millions, a scholar, an outstanding lawyer, and an activist who led from the front Pa Clark’s legacy extends beyond his lifetime, inspiring generations to fight for justice, equity, and the rights of the Niger Delta people.
His voice thundered in political arenas, and his presence was felt in the highest echelons of power. As a nationalist, Pa Clark spent his life advocating for true federalism, resource control, and the rights of minority groups. His leadership qualities were evident in his fight for true fiscal federalism and the rights of the Niger Delta region. Prof. Ozekhome recalls his encounters with Pa Clark, particularly at the 2005 National Political Reform Conference, where he witnessed Clark’s brilliance, courage, and ability to command respect. Pa Clark’s impact on Nigeria’s national discourse is undeniable. He was a towering figure whose influence was felt across the political firmament for nearly six decades.
The Pan Niger Delta Forum (PANDEF) also pays tribute to Pa Clark, describing him as a fearless advocate for the rights and development of the Niger Delta people. His contributions to national unity, justice, and development remain unparalleled. Pa Clark’s life was a testament to his unwavering commitment to justice, equity, and the rights of the Niger Delta people. He was a voice for the voiceless, demanding justice for the marginalized and carrying the weight of an entire region’s hopes on his shoulders. As we remember Pa Clark, we are reminded of the African proverb, “The dead are not gone; they are only in the earth.” His legacy lives on, inspiring generations to come.
Prof. Ozekhome’s tribute to Pa Clark is a heartfelt reflection on the late statesman’s enduring impact on Nigeria.
