The Director-General of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Brig Gen Olakunle Oluseye Nafiu, has charged corps members serving in Kogi State to embrace entrepreneurship, remain diligent, and take advantage of opportunities around them to build sustainable sources of income.
​Speaking on Tuesday, July 14, 2026, during his official working visit to the NYSC Orientation Camp in Asaya, Kabba, Kogi State, the Director-General emphasized that self-reliance remains the most viable antidote to post-service unemployment in the current economic landscape.
​Addressing the uniform-clad youths, Brig Gen Nafiu stated that the scheme’s Skill Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development (SAED) programme was specifically designed to transform corps members from job seekers into job creators.
​”The corporate world is shrinking, but the entrepreneurial space is vast and filled with untapped potential. Do not wait for white-collar jobs that may not be there. Look around you, identify societal needs, and deploy your skills to create sustainable income streams,” Nafiu said.
​He further urged the corps members to maintain high levels of discipline, patriotism, and dedication as they prepare to deploy to their various Places of Primary Assignment (PPA) across the state. He assured them that the NYSC management remains deeply committed to prioritizing their security, welfare, and overall well-being throughout their service year.
​Welcoming the Director-General to the camp, the NYSC Kogi State Coordinator, Mrs. Mofoluwaso Williams, praised the corps members for their exemplary conduct and resilience since the orientation course began. She noted that a significant percentage of the current batch had already actively bought into the camp’s vocational training sessions, showing immense enthusiasm for self-development.
The event concluded with an interactive session where the Director-General addressed specific welfare questions from the corps members, followed by a brief inspection of the camp facilities and the SAED exhibition stands.
