Senator Tony Nwoye, the lawmaker representing Anambra North in the upper legislative chamber, has lamented the killing of Justice Azuka, the lawmaker representing Onitsha North Constituency 1 in the Anambra State House of Assembly, by suspected kidnappers in the state.
Nwoye, in a statement, expressed deep sorrow over the tragic loss, describing Azuka as a humane, humble and honest leader who embodied justice and fairness in his public and private life.
He said: “He was a bridge-builder, a team player, and a dedicated Labour Party member loved by the grassroots. His untimely death is a heart-wrenching tragedy that has cut short a young, enterprising, and promising life.”
The senator extended condolences to the deceased’s family, the traditional ruler of Onitsha, HRH Igwe Dr. Alfred Achebe (the Obi of Onitsha), and the entire people of Onitsha North Constituency 1.
The remains of Justice Azuka, the lawmaker, were discovered at the Second Niger Bridge, Onitsha, more than a month after he was kidnapped.
Azuka, who was abducted on December 24, 2024, along Ugwunabamkpa Road, Inland Town, Onitsha, was found dead by a combined security team, sparking outrage and mourning across Anambra North Senatorial District.
The killing of the lawmaker has reignited concerns over the worsening security situation in Anambra State, causing leaders and residents to call for urgent measures to curb the menace, which they say has claimed too many lives.
Senator Nwoye said: “The greatest respect we can pay to the lives lost in this state is to join hands and put a stop to this growing insecurity that threatens our very existence.”
