Vice President Kashim Shettima departed the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja on Tuesday afternoon, October 6, 2026, heading to Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, to lead a high-level government-to-government peer exchange focused on accelerating nationwide nutrition delivery.

The official departure and itinerary were confirmed in a statement issued on Tuesday by the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Communications (Office of the Vice President), Stanley Nkwocha.

As head of the delegation, Vice President Shettima will lead the inaugural Nigeria-Ethiopia Nutrition Leadership Exchange Visit, a three-day bilateral engagement designed to foster shared learning and align multi-level compacts on nutrition delivery across federal, state, and local governments.

The exchange aims to bolster Nigeria’s sub-national framework for food security and nutrition, following the government’s recent launch of the Nutrition 774 Initiative, which targets direct intervention across all 774 Local Government Areas.

During the three-day programme in Ethiopia, the Nigerian delegation will study how the Ethiopian government successfully operationalized political commitment into nationwide community-level interventions.

The delegation is scheduled to tour multiple strategic agricultural and development hubs across Ethiopia, including a high-yield wheat farm and banana plantation in the Oromia Region.
