The New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) has accused the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) of plotting to stay in power beyond 2027 by strategically creating divisions within opposition parties and weakening their organizational strength.

This claim was made by NNPP’s National Chairman, Ajuji Ahmed, during the flag-off of the party’s campaign for Olugbenga Edema, its gubernatorial candidate in Ondo State, on Thursday, October 17, in Akure.

According to Ahmed, the APC is actively engaging in efforts to manipulate and destabilize other political parties in preparation for the upcoming 2027 general elections.

He expressed concern over the political interference from the ruling party, suggesting that this move is part of the APC’s strategy to maintain dominance in Nigeria’s political landscape.

“The APC is doing everything it can in order to win the 2027 general election. Certainly, there is evidence everywhere that they are interfering in other parties,” Ahmed stated.

Despite this, the NNPP chairman emphasized the resilience of his party and its commitment to maintaining unity within the opposition camp.

He stated that it is the responsibility of other political parties to maintain their integrity and stay united in order to provide a viable challenge to the APC, both before and after the 2027 elections.

Ahmed made it clear that the NNPP remains open to collaboration with other opposition parties for a potential coalition aimed at countering the ruling party’s influence.

In his address, Olugbenga Edema, the NNPP’s candidate for Ondo State governor, reiterated his commitment to addressing the economic challenges and hardships allegedly caused by the APC government.

Edema promised to implement policies that would directly benefit the people of Ondo State, particularly in improving their living conditions.

Moreover, Edema also took the opportunity to voice concerns about the conduct of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), alleging that the results of the recent gubernatorial election in Edo State were manipulated. He stressed that such electoral fraud would not be tolerated in Ondo State and vowed to ensure free and fair elections in the upcoming polls.
