Coach Augustine Eguavoen’s pursuit of two wins in two games fell short as Nigeria was held to a goalless draw by Rwanda in Kigali on Tuesday. After leading the Super Eagles to a convincing 3-0 victory over Benin just three days prior, Eguavoen would have hoped to maintain a perfect winning record against the Wasps.
However, the match ended in a stalemate, with both teams sharing the points. Despite the draw, Nigeria retained their position as group leaders.
Eguavoen made only one change to the Super Eagles lineup from the Benin game, replacing Alex Iwobi with Fisayo Dele-Bashiru.
Victor Osimhen, who had scored in the previous match, was listed among the substitutes, while Victor Boniface once again spearheaded the attack. Throughout the game, Nigeria was the more dominant side, particularly in the first half, creating several scoring opportunities but failing to convert them.
In the 22nd minute, Lookman, who had scored a brilliant brace in Uyo, headed the ball into the net, only for the goal to be disallowed due to a foul by Boniface.
This was Lookman’s second clear chance; earlier, he had raced through on goal, only to see his low shot blocked by the Rwandan goalkeeper.
