The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has urged Nigerians struggling with drug dependence to seek professional help through its 24-hour counselling and referral service.
The agency’s Secretary, Shadrach Haruna, made the call in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Monday, June 22, 2026, as part of activities marking the 2026 United Nations International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking.
Haruna said individuals affected by substance use disorders, as well as their families and friends, should take advantage of available support services, stressing that recovery is possible with proper intervention.
He explained that the NDLEA’s dedicated helpline, 0800-1020-3040, also known as the 247-Network, provides immediate access to trained professionals who offer counselling and referrals to treatment and rehabilitation centres.
“Anyone who calls the number will receive an instant response in whatever language they speak. Trained social psychologists are available round the clock to provide counselling and refer callers to appropriate treatment centres,” Haruna said.
The NDLEA said treatment and rehabilitation remain key parts of its drug control strategy, alongside enforcement, prevention, and public awareness campaigns under its War Against Drug Abuse (WADA) initiative.
Haruna also highlighted partnerships with faith-based organisations and community groups, describing families and religious institutions as important channels for spreading awareness and supporting recovery.
The agency urged Nigerians to support efforts against drug abuse by encouraging those affected to seek help without fear of stigma.
The NDLEA’s latest appeal comes amid continued concerns over substance abuse, particularly among young people, as the agency expands its focus on both enforcement and rehabilitation.
