Senator Monday Okpebholo, affectionately called ‘Akpakomiza’ (kind heart) served notice early enough that he would be a big ticket politician. In 2003, at 33, he was elected to the House of Representatives on the Platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) whose candidate he defeated in the keenly contested Saturday, September 21, Edo governorship election to emerge as Edo’s 4th Governor (governor-elect for now) in this democratic dispensation.
Since then, as they say, he has not looked back.
Last year, he was elected Senator on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and February this year, its governorship candidate and now Governor-elect.
Contrary to popular narratives, Okpebholo, from his records, has always been prepared for whatever the endeavour he puts his to engaging in. To start with, he is a well-educated man.
His bio-brief includes that his upbringing in Uromi encompassed schooling at local institutions for both primary and secondary education, and that after early schooling in Uromi, he attended the University of Benin where he earned a Bachelor’s degree in Agricultural Economics.
Thereafter, he also entered for and earned a Master’s degree in Public Administration from the same institution, capping it all with a Ph.D. in Agricultural Economics from the University of Ibadan.
Additionally, he holds certificates in Legislative Studies and Management from esteemed Nigerian institutes, underscoring his dedication to continuous personal and professional development.
Needless to say that when Senator Monday Okpebholo emerged as the governorship candidate of the APC, he was already a prominent figure in Nigerian politics, one driven by a can-do spirit honed by years of personal development.
Okpebholo was born in 1970 to the late Chief and Mrs. Peter Okpebholo of Udomi community in Uwesan-Irrua, Essan Central Local Government Area of Edo State. His father hailed from Udomi community, while his mother was a native of Ikekiala community in Eguare-Uromi, Essan North East LGA. The young Monday was raised in a modest family where his parents imbued him with the core values of integrity and diligence. These would profoundly influence his path in life.
