Many people were feared dead in an accident that occurred yesterday, Thursday, September 12, at Ile-Ife, Osun State, when a gas truck collided with a commercial bus bus in which about 17 passengers were commuting.
Eyewitnesses said the incident happened at about 12.50 pm, near the old toll gate along Ife-Ibadan expressway and very close to Ife Grand Resorts and Industrial Hub.
It was gathered that a gas-laden truck rammed into an intra-city mini bus conveying about seventeen commuters.
The spokesperson of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defense Corps (NSCDC), Kehinde Adeleke, confirmed the incident.
Adeleke, who said the number of casualties could not be ascertained, explained that operatives of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), the Police and NSCDC were still making frantic efforts to evacuate those trapped as at the time an eyewitness filed this report.
“Others that were seriously injured were being conveyed to hospital. Efforts are being made as well to tow the wreckage of the vehicle and the truck to the Police Station for further investigation,” Adeleke said.
She promised that an update would be provided as soon as the rescue operation was completed.
