Former Attorney-General of the Federation (AGF) and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami (SAN), has emerged as the governorship candidate for the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Kebbi State for the upcoming 2027 general elections.
His nomination on May 24, 2026, follows a consensus arrangement within the ADC, marking a high-profile move for the former AGF who recently defected from the All Progressives Congress (APC).
While Malami is preparing for his gubernatorial bid, he remains entangled in a high-stakes legal battle involving the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
Malami, along with his wife (Hajia Bashir Asabe) and son (Abubakar Abdulaziz Malami), is facing a 16-count charge related to money laundering, conspiracy, and procurement fraud.
