Yoruba Nation activist Chief Sunday “Igboho” Adeyemo officially launched the Ogun State chapter of the Iru Ekun Security Network on Wednesday, August 26, 2026, to bolster grassroots security against kidnapping and banditry across the South-West region.
​The inauguration event gathered thousands of supporters and prospective volunteers. Video footage and photographs from the venue showed hundreds of recruits clad in matching black outfits and caps assembled under street tents and along urban thoroughfares while onlookers documented the event on their phones.
​Addressing the recruits, Igboho emphasized strict internal discipline and warned against abusing official authority. The Federal Government will designate the specific agency to conduct official training for the recruits, after which members will receive local government-issued ID cards upon completion.
The Ogun State Governor’s Office will supervise all operational placements across the state. Igboho confirmed state authorities have pledged financial support, including a structured monthly stipend to help volunteers support their families while on duty.
“You must have discipline. Do not engage in reckless behaviour or ruin things just because they have trained you and you have ID card,” Igboho warned the gathering.
​Igboho drew historical comparisons between Iru Ekun, meaning “Leopard’s Tail” in Yoruba and the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC). He noted that the NSCDC began as a modest market protection group known locally as “Little Defence” before evolving into a federally recognized security institution.
The activist expressed confidence that Iru Ekun will follow a similar path toward formal regional integration as it expands its footprint across Southwestern states.
