Former Ekiti State Governor Ayodele Fayose declared that Labour Party standard-bearer Peter Obi effectively ended his path to the presidency after parting ways with the African Democratic Congress (ADC) coalition structure.

Speaking during a live broadcast of the political analysis show Politics Tonight on TVC News, Fayose offered a direct assessment of the fractured state of Nigeria’s opposition ahead of the upcoming 2027 general elections. According to Fayose, the decision to break away from a unified opposition front ultimately plays directly into the hands of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

”When they were all together in ADC, I would tell anybody that they will make an impact,” Fayose stated during the program. “The day Obi left ADC for NDC, that day Obi lost.”

Fayose argued that political momentum relies on cohesive structures rather than individual popularity alone. While acknowledging Obi’s personal standing among voters, the former governor noted that operating outside a broad-based coalition weakens the overall opposition leverage.

A united opposition under the ADC platform posed a credible electoral threat to the ruling party. The division among prominent opposition leaders scatters vital voting blocs across multiple parties.

Without a consolidated front, rival candidates will struggle to mount an effective nationwide challenge against the incumbent platform.

Despite his sharp critique of Obi’s political strategy, Fayose described the former Anambra State governor as a prominent political figure who has demonstrated that reform is possible, though he maintained that structural realignment remains essential for any genuine attempt at the presidency.

Neither official spokespersons for Peter Obi nor representatives of the African Democratic Congress have issued formal statements in response to Fayose’s comments.
