Former Minister of Information and Culture, Lai Mohammed, has dismissed a report attributed to him concerning an alleged “Hausa Insurgency” and its supposed sponsors.

In a statement issued on Saturday, Mohammed described the publication as false and misleading, clarifying that he never made any comments suggesting the existence of such an insurgency.

He said a fabricated story was circulating on social media, falsely quoting him as raising an alarm over a so-called “Hausa Insurgency” and naming alleged sponsors. The former minister urged members of the public to disregard the report, which he characterised as fake news.

“The purported report claims that I made these remarks during an interview with ’SPLASHFM 1055′ in Ibadan,” the statement read.

Mohammed stressed that he did not grant any such interview nor make statements of that nature, warning against the spread of misinformation capable of causing unnecessary tension.

He called on media practitioners and the public to verify information from credible sources before sharing, emphasising the need for responsible communication, especially on sensitive national issues.
