The Lagos State Government has inaugurated Local Government Focal Persons and Lagos Neighbourhood Security Corps (LNSC) anti-human trafficking desk officers as part of efforts to strengthen the fight against human trafficking across the state.
The desk officers were inaugurated on Tuesday at Alausa, Ikeja, by the Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, Mr Lawal Pedro (SAN), who said the initiative was aimed at improving coordination, intelligence gathering and accountability at the grassroots level.
Pedro explained that the newly established structure underscored the state government’s commitment to a coordinated and multi-agency approach in tackling human trafficking and related offences.
“This structure reflects our belief in coordination, clarity of roles, and accountability. The Heads of Legal Units provide the legal and institutional anchor within the local government system, while the LNSC officers bring field presence, community intelligence, and operational support,” the Attorney-General said.
According to him, the collaboration between local government legal units and the LNSC would enhance early detection of trafficking activities, ensure prompt response to cases, and strengthen prosecution through proper documentation and legal guidance.
Pedro added that human trafficking remained a serious violation of human rights and a threat to public safety, stressing that the government would continue to put in place mechanisms to protect vulnerable persons, particularly women and children.
He urged the desk officers to work closely with relevant stakeholders, including law enforcement agencies, community leaders and civil society organisations, to ensure effective prevention, reporting and prosecution of trafficking cases.
The inauguration of the focal persons and desk officers is part of Lagos State’s broader strategy to deepen community-based security and reinforce its zero-tolerance stance against human trafficking.
