The Management of Lagos State University (LASU) has launched a comprehensive investigation into allegations that several academic staff members failed to upload student results, a delay that threatens to defer graduations and force affected students into extra academic years.
The probe was formally announced on Friday, August 21, following an emergency joint meeting between the university Senate and the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU-LASU) chapter.
The session convened at 10:00 AM inside the Senate Chambers at the main campus in Ojo, where student representatives presented evidence of outstanding course grades spanning multiple academic sessions.
Preliminary complaints highlight that final-year students across the Faculties of Social Sciences, Management Sciences, and Science are the most severely impacted.
According to the university’s official release, the failure to process these grades promptly prevents affected students from completing mandatory clearance, participating in the upcoming convocation, or enrolling in the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) scheme.
The Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Ibiyemi Olatunji-Bello, constituted a 7-member Investigative Disciplinary Committee chaired by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic).
The panel began sit-ins at 9:00 AM on Saturday, August 22, at the DVC Conference Room and has been given a 14-day deadline to submit its final report. Affected students have been instructed to submit written complaints to their respective departmental heads or directly via the university’s quality assurance portal before 4:00 PM on Wednesday, August 26.
Speaking on behalf of the university administration, LASU Coordinator of Centre for Information and Public Relations, Mr. Olaniyi Jeariogbe, affirmed the management’s commitment to protecting students’ welfare.
”The management views these allegations with absolute seriousness. LASU maintains a zero-tolerance policy for actions that compromise the academic integrity and timely progress of our students. Any lecturer found culpable of deliberate negligence or withholding results without valid justification will face appropriate disciplinary sanctions in line with the university’s conditions of service,” Jeariogbe stated.
The findings and recommended sanctions will be presented to the University Governing Council at the conclusion of the 14-day review period.
